SPICUS 24 SC is an  translaminar, non-systemic insecticide-acaricide developed to control the main mite pests (tetranychid, eriophyid and tenuipalpid mites). Its active ingredient, spirodiclofen (IRAC, group 23) is an ketoenol-derived from tetronic acid, wich acts as an inhibitor of acetyl-CoA carboxylase, preventing lipid synthesis by mites and insects, causing their death in the medium-short term.

Spicus 24 SC

COMPOSITION % (w/v)
  • Spirodiclofen 24.0 %
PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Its acaricide effect is produced by contact, in a quick way, with non-systemic effect on crops. By preventing lipid synthesis, SPICUS 24 SC acts on all growing stages: killing eggs, larvae, nymphs, as well as adult females, by killing them and reducing fertility. Although adult male mites are out of their control, their numbers are smaller and their impact is reduced, dying without offspring.

Although its acaricidal effect is slower than that of other raw materials, the results of applying SPICUS 24 SC can be seen in the gradual reduction of mite populations. Another of the great advantages of SPICUS 24 SC is the control of mite populations that are resistant to other active ingredients. On the other hand, no cross-resistance to clofentezin and hexythiazox has been reported.

As to its insecticidal effect, it acts in a similar way, controlling the initial stages: eggs, larvae and nymphs of various Homopterans pest-species. For example, when the acaricide is applied, it is secondarily repressive against the San Jose red scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus) and oystershell scale (Lepidiosaphes ulmi).

With regard to its behaviour towards predatory mites, SPICUS 24 SC has a varied behaviour depending on the species and its stage. It has a null-low level of toxicity (<25%) on adults of Ambliseius swirskii.
